The basic technique is to go within and listen and then do as the within is prompting you to do.

group classes on Zoom

Yoga invites us to slow down so we can practice and develop the skills of awareness and self-observation. In the context of a yoga practice, we do this as we explore ourselves and our experience of the moment as we recline on our mat, and as we sit, stretch, stand, move, and breathe.

Please consider joining me to slow down in community, to notice your body and breath, and whatever there is to notice about yourself and your personal experience while on the mat. We’ll practice doing this with our own curiosity and as a neutral witness, while letting go of any judgment or self-criticism that arise.

All of the classes I teach are conducted in the Hatha style of yoga which refers to a traditional approach with emphasis on breathing, alignment, and overall wellness. A typical hatha yoga class includes a brief centering, physical postures (the “asana” part of the practice), and final relaxation in a restorative pose like corpse (savasana), or a few minutes of grounding meditation.

I love working with beginners and most of my students are over 50, like myself.

I currently offer a 45-minute gentle class every Wednesday morning from 10 – 10:45 AM ET via Zoom. If you’re brand-new to yoga, or enjoy a slow, steady practice with a lot of mindfulness and attention to your body and breath, this class may be a good fit for you!

I also offer a weekly Saturday morning, 60-minute, Hatha “all-levels” yoga class on Zoom from 10 - 11 AM ET. For this class, some familiarity with yoga is helpful. We usually begin with some slow opening stretches as we warm up and release accumulated tension in our muscles and spine. Then we’ll make our way toward more challenging standing poses that we hold longer to build strength, stability, stamina, and balance. Afterwards, we’ll wind down, re-center, and enjoy a final relaxation pose.

You’re welcome to join me anytime! Please feel free to drop in to give any of my classes a try. Your first class is always free. After that, it’s $10 for each 45-minute Wednesday class, and $13 for each 60-minute Saturday class. These classes are also available free or at a discounted rate to anyone experiencing hardship at any time. Please get in touch with me if you find yourself in this category. Otherwise, I currently accept payments via PayPal, cash, and personal check.

At this time, I’m also part of the teaching body of Sun and Moon Yoga Studio in Arlington, Virginia as a substitute teacher. Please see Sun and Moon’s website to learn more about this vibrant yoga community and the myriad classes and trainings they offer.

group chats on yoga-related topics

Every so often I offer free talks on yoga-related topics. Past talks have included establishing and continuing home-based asana and meditation practices. Please feel free to contact me if you’d like to receive notifications about upcoming talks, and also if you’re interested in initiating a group chat on a particular yoga-related topic.

private sessions

I work privately, in a one-on-one setting with students who aim to develop a practice tailored to their bodies and whatever challenges or limitations may be currently present for them. These sessions may take place in a physically-distant fashion in the student’s private patio or yard, or virtually on Zoom, or in-person. Private sessions mirror an aspect of yoga as it’s been traditionally taught in India, where the student and teacher develop a deeper relationship as they work together over time.

I also teach private group classes on Zoom. Round up your family and friends and let’s design a practice just for you!
