Yoga & Me

Yoga literally means to “yoke” or “unite” the body, mind, and spirit or breath. Yoga involves the gradual, gentle alignment of these different aspects of ourselves through various practices, which can help practitioners (like me) feel less scattered and more together, as well as more peaceful and settled.

Yoga invites us to “come back to center.” This may be literal, such as when we return to the center of our yoga mat over and over during a practice session. Or it may be subtle and involve the gentle return to the center of ourselves, where we can practice listening for our own inner guidance.

I’ve been a curious student of this yoga practice and philosophy for more than twenty years, and I’m currently in my fourth year of teaching. Click below to learn more about my personal yoga journey, and what this practice means to me.

current yoga offerings

I teach weekly group classes on Zoom to students of all ages and abilities. I was trained, practice, and teach in the Hatha yoga style, which is a gentle, mindful style that includes guidance and attention to the breath, alignment in the postures (called asanas), as well as the practitioner’s overall sense of well being.

While the Hatha yoga approach is generally slow and deliberate, it can be challenging as we develop our strength, stability, flexibility, agility and balance, among other things. Recent studies point to findings that a regular yoga practice may have myriad benefits that include stress relief, emotional regulation, and pain relief.

Writing & More….

Part of my dharma or purpose in life has involved surrendering to the urge to write honestly about my personal experiences and how life hits me. That is, to find my voice and use it.

When I immerse myself in the writing process, I lose all sense of time and ego-self, and the writing carries me through. It’s a metabolization and digestion process that often results in understanding and acceptance of myself and my life - exactly as they are in this moment - as well as inner peace.

A book manuscript has been an unintended by-product of this magical practice, and it may be destined to go out into the world one day. Stay tuned with me to witness how this mysterious process continues to unfold.
